Muscle, Mitochondria, & Metabolic Energy

This is a snippet from this course about muscle, mitochondria, metabolic energy, and how to improve autonomic nervous system homeostasis, the Key to health. During Aerobic respiration, when mitochondria have all the oxygen they need, each mitochondria produces about 36 ATP energy units for every molecule of glucose that gets processed through the electron transport chain. During Anaerobic respiration, when the mitochondria do not have enough oxygen, each mitochondria produces about 2 ATP energy units. That’s 18X LESS energy output for the same input. This is not good. It means hypoxic tissues produce about 18 times less energy than healthy tissues do.
